April in Paris, a new platform for international modern and contemporary art, will launch at its location in Aerdenhout, the Netherlands, and simultaneously on its website www.aprilinparisfinearts.com on 24th April 2021.
April in Paris is a new commercial art space focusing on creating an engaging and playful dialogue between historic and contemporary works of art. Its activities range from making exhibitions (both physical and online), art dealing and developing special projects with artists. Often poetic, sharp, and intelligent, the collection of works presents a warm and dreamy palette.
The founders, Maurice van Valen and his wife Evi Vingerling, have spent years focusing on art. For Maurice, his collecting began at the young age of fifteen, when, during a difficult time in his life, he visited an art gallery with his father. Moved by what he saw, he left that day with a work by the Dutch artist Corneille under his arm, the first of many acquisitions. The name of this work: April in Paris. Through the artworld Maurice found an arena in which his sharp senses were not just beneficial, but crucial. It was within this world that Maurice met his future wife, artist Evi Vingerling. April in Paris is the result of their personal journeys and their shared ethos concerning art.
April in Paris is housed in a turn of the 20th century villa in Aerdenhout, a neighborhood located in the wooded dunes just outside of Amsterdam. This informal setting is representative of April in Paris’ attitude to how art can be experienced. Instead of a white cube, visitors should expect a salon filled with sunlight and a comfortable couch as you contemplate great works of art. April in Paris aims to be a dynamic, accessible, and interactive space. Many historical works in particular, are by artists not commonly known in the Netherlands. In addition to exhibitions, there will be informal lectures, artists’ talks and the opportunity for a private viewing, all of which will act as a catalyst for conversation and exchange. Furthermore, April in Paris is keen to give art dealing the required attention and respect and focuses on carefully selecting, researching, restoring, and presenting the historical part of the collection with care.
In addition to the exhibition venue, April in Paris will host online exhibitions on their extensive website www.aprilinparisfinearts.com. Here, exhibitions will be shown within their unique digital viewing rooms, accompanied by further information on the works and their artists. In order to create exciting online experience, the website will host articles, video tours, artist interviews, historical source materials and additional content.
The space’s inaugural exhibition ‘Personal Resonance’ will be running from 24th April 2021 to 12th June 2021 on site at April in Paris in Aerdenhout (Schulpweg 14, appointment only) and online at www.aprilinparisfinearts.com. Some of the artists included in the exhibition are Karel Appel, Michael Dean, Clémence de La Tour du Pin, George Grosz, Aristide Maillol, Katja Mater, Salvo and JCJ Vanderheyden.
